CALL 14-2019-1 - Research Assistant position in the Communication Networks Division – Mobile Networks Department
The Communication Networks Division of the CTTC is searching for interested candidates in a research assistant position in its Mobile Networks Department.
We are looking for a researcher interested in and capable of designing and developing network simulators for 5G networks. Therefore, the ideal candidate should demonstrate background in the following areas: cellular mobile communication systems, LTE/NR, D2D, V2X networks, and experience in implementation of system level simulators. In particular, the candidate will be required to build new 5G modules in the context of the ns-3 open source simulator. As a result, previous experience and contribution, ideally at maintainer level, to the ns-3 open source project is mandatory. In particular, knowledge of D2D and V2X communications, and of their implementation in ns-3 branches would be highly valued.
Accordingly, the researcher has to be able to demonstrate very specific developer abilities: excellent programming skills in C/C++ and Python; knowledge of ns-3 module development and ns-3 event scheduling; knowledge of development toolchain waf; knowledge of ns-3 test environment; knowledge of Linux distributions and command line interface, including shell/bash scripting and system variables; demonstrated previous experience with debugging tools like gdb, DDD, etc. and Valgrind; in-depth knowledge of version control system Mercurial (and GitHub); and knowledge of pcap trace analysis and related tools for network protocol analysis (e.g., Wireshark, Tcpdump, etc.). Knowledge of Integrated development environments (IDE), e.g., Eclipse, Kdevelop, or NetBeans and having developed simulation execution automation tools is also a plus. Finally, research will be conducted in the area of machine learning based network optimization, so previous experience and publications in this area, will be highly appreciated. Finally, knowledge of the R language is also highly valued.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Interested candidates must be strongly motivated, hold and MSc. degree in telecommunications, electrical engineering, computer science, or related area, and have the capacity of carrying out collaborative innovative research.
The position is associated to an industrial contract of an initial duration of 18. The salary would be defined according to previous experience and skills of the interested researcher, and it will be in the range of 25K-30Keuros. Researchers interested in joining the Mobile Networks Department should send their curriculum vitae, including list of publications, and the names and addresses of at least two referees. These documents should be sent in PDF format through this online application. CVs and any other information gathered during this process will be handled confidentially. Since the publication date, the offer will stay open during one month.
