The Geomatics Division of CTTC invites applications for a researcher at postdoctoral level in its Geodesy and Navigation Department. The contract will be funded by the Catalan Government (ACCIO – Generalitat de Catalunya) through the competitive Tecniospring INDUSTRY call, see as a reference.


We are looking for a postdoc researcher interested in i) remote sensing techniques to monitor sea water quality, ii) advanced deep learning solutions and iii) marine biology to support the data analysis and guide the interpretation of results.

In this context, the project general objective is to design and implement Anomaly Detection (AD) methods based on the analysis of time series of single and multiple water quality indicators and ocean information, derived from Remote Sensing and in-situ data, using advanced machine learning techniques. These tools will be used to understand phenomena that occur around the aquaculture sites and to identify the source such as exogenous events (storms), the interaction with other systems (agricultural systems), extreme biological phenomena (blooms) or other anthropogenic phenomena.  The goal of the study is to check if the environment itself is resilient and accepts the changes due to aquaculture.


Interested candidates must be strongly motivated and hold a PhD in the areas of mathematics, electronic engineering, telecommunications, geoinformation, computer science, or related areas. They should demonstrate oral and written Spanish and English communication skills.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate background in Machine learning, optimization, statistics and data mining.

Researchers must comply with the conditions detailed in the following link: Mainly: The researcher must not have resided or carried out her/his main activity (work, studies) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline for the submission of applications. Hold a doctoral degree and two additional years of full-time research experience after obtaining it; or have at least six years of full-time equivalent research experience, including the period of research training, after obtaining the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate. Tecniospring INDUSTRY also welcomes experienced researchers who come after a career break. It is considered that researchers have had a career break when they were not active in research for a continuous period of at least twelve months within the eighteen months immediately prior to the deadline for submission of proposals.


Interested candidates will be evaluated considering the following aspects:

  • Machine learning experience.
  • Statistics and R programming skills.
  • Python.
  • Previous research experience: publication track and previous R&D projects.
  • English and Spanish proficiency.
  • Catalan skills are appreciated.


The contract is subject to the acceptance of the proposal to be presented at ACCIO. The duration of the contract will be 2 years, starting between March and June 2021. The selected candidates will prepare jointly with CTTC their candidature to be submitted to the competitive TECHNIOSPRING INDUSTRY call (deadline: 16th November 2020).

Fellowships fund the salary and research costs of the researcher. According to fellopwship rules the ACCIÓ contribution for the labor costs is an amount of €58.500/year.
