CALL 6-2017-1 - Researcher position – Communication Networks Division –Mobile Networks Department
The Communication Networks Division of the CTTC is searching for interested candidates in a research assistant position in its Mobile Networks Department.
Interest is in the areas of cellular technologies (and specifically, LTE, NR), IEEE 802.11ac, mmWave, WiGiG, cognitive radio and networks, and radio resource management. We are looking for a researcher interested in and capable of designing and developing network simulation for 5G networks. Therefore, the ideal candidate should demonstrate background in as many as possible areas out of the following list: cellular mobile communication systems, WiFi/WiGiG networks, and experience in implementation of system level simulators. Knowledge of D2D systems would be highly appreciated. In particular, the candidate will be required to build new 5G modules in the context of the ns-3 open source simulator. Therefore, previous experience and contribution, at developer level, to the ns-3 open source project is a must. Accordingly, the researcher has to be able to demonstrate very specific developer abilities: excellent programming skills in C/C++ and Python; knowledge of ns-3 module development and ns-3 event scheduling; knowledge of development toolchain waf; knowledge of ns-3 test environment; knowledge of Linux distributions and command line interface, including shell/bash scripting and system variables; demonstrated previous experience with debugging tools like gdb, DDD, etc. and Valgrind; in-depth knowledge of version control system Mercurial (and GitHub); and knowledge of pcap trace analysis and related tools for network protocol analysis (e.g., Wireshark, Tcpdump, etc.). Knowledge of Integrated development environments (IDE), e.g., Eclipse, Kdevelop, or NetBeans and having developed simulation execution automation tools is also a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Interested candidates must be strongly motivated, hold an MSc or Ph.D. degree in telecommunications, electrical engineering, computer science, or related area, and have the capacity of carrying out collaborative innovative research.
The contract duration for the potential position would be 12 months, renewable on a yearly basis subject to performance and budgetary constraints. The position is associated to an industrial contract, funded through a US agency, of the initial duration of 12 months and probably extendable up to 24 months. The salary would be defined according to previous experience and skills of the interested researcher. Researchers interested in joining the Mobile Networks Department should send their curriculum vitae, including list of publications, and the names and addresses of at least two referees. These documents should be sent in PDF format through this online application. CVs and any other information gathered during this process will be handled confidentially.
Communication Networks Division – CTTC
Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), in Castelldefels – Barcelona, is a growing and well-funded research institution fostering excellence and diversity. CTTC offers a highly international environment at an exceptionally attractive location. As a research center in telecommunications technologies CTTC provides a fertile environment for research cooperation and innovation between different disciplines. More specifically, the Communication Networks Division (COMNET) aims at providing an integrated end-to-end view of mobile and transport, optical and wireless, access and core networks by exploiting SDN and NFV architectural principles.
