Call 2/2011-1 - CTTC Offers 2 PhD Fellowships
08 February 2011 - Expires: 21 February 2011
Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), located in Barcelona, offers 2 PhD Fellowships funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN) to carry out fundamental research on the following projects:
- Self-organized femtocells for Broadband Services (SOFOCLES). Project code: TEC2010-21100. For more information click here.
- Joint Source and Channel Cooperative Networks (JUNTOS). Project code: TEC2010- 17816. For more information click here.
- The aim of these projects will be to conduct fundamental research in the following areas:
: This project addresses the radio resource management (RRM) problems related with the foreseen massive deployment of LTE-A femtocell networks. Self-organization will be proposed to decrease the operational costs and facilitate the scalability of the operator’s management of the femto network. Particular attention will be given to design the self-organized network (SON) by means of artificial intelligence approaches. Research will span one or more of the following topics: LTE-A femtocell networks, self-organized networks (SONs), artificial intelligence for RRM and communications, economic models for communication networks.JUNTOS
: This project studies multimedia transmission over wireless multi-user networks, and proposes innovative coding and networking schemes based on cooperation among nodes. The overall goal in JUNTOS is to build a theoretical understanding of multi-user wireless network design to support the increasing demand for multimedia transmission in future networks. The research will span one or more of the following topics: information theory, wireless communications, video coding, networking theory. A strong mathematical background is a plus.
The eligible candidates are students, with a good academic record and strong motivation for research, who will defend their Master thesis in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related fields, no later than June 2011. The successful candidates will join CTTC in autumn 2011.
The Fellowship contract has a maximum duration of 48 months (24 months of fellowship tenure + 24 months of work contract tenure). The fellowship stipend for the first and second years will be 1.142€ per month (gross). From the third year, the fellowships turn into regular work contracts with a salary of 16.422 € /year (gross).
Online submission of application forms will be open from February 7 to February 21, 2011.
Instructions and more information about the submission process are available at the MICINN website
