Call 5/2014-1 - POST-DOC POSITION on Energy Harvesting Communications Networks, Advanced Signal and Information Processing Department

16 July 2014 - Expires: 24 August 2014

The Advanced Signal and Information Processing Department from the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicomunicacions de Catalunya announces the availability of a 1-year post-doctoral position. For more information about our Department please check

The position is associated to the Energy harvesting Communication netwoRks: OPtimization and demonStration (E-CROPS) project, funded within the CHIST-ERA funding scheme of FP7, which fosters highly innovative and multidisciplinary collaborative projects in information and communication sciences and technologies.

The project started in December 2013. Its main objective is to study the design, optimization and implementation of a wireless network in which, nodes can harvest renewable energy and store the extra energy in their batteries, be it at the terminal or the network infrastructure side. More information on E-CROPS:

The main task of the post-doc is to develop optimal communications policies for EH wireless networks, propose power/rate allocation, cooperation and interference management policies for multi-hop EH communication networks and determine achievable data throughput and delay of these policies. The impact of factors such as finite storage capacity, battery leakage, as well as the energy dissipated on the device circuitry will be taken into account.

The ideal candidate should have a PhD degree in the area of optimization of energy harvesting communication systems and networks. In particular, preference will be given to those candidates with proven experience on the design of power allocation strategies for energy harvesting devices taking into account the processing energy of the different elements in the transmission chain. In addition, experience on the design of transmission strategies for practical communication systems, e.g., that consider non-Gaussian input signalling, will be of high value. The candidate must have strong background or interest in the following research areas: optimization theory, signal processing, communication theory and network theory.

Applicants must be strongly motivated, hold a Ph.D. degree in telecommunications,   electrical engineering or similar fields, and have the capacity of carrying out innovative research independently. A good publication record is fundamental. Experience in R&D or industrial projects is a plus.

Contract duration is 12 months. The initial salary will range from 28,000 to 32,000 Euro/year (gross). Applications should include a curriculum vitae including list of publications, a concise statement of research interests, and the names and addresses of at least two referees. The application documents must be submitted through the online application.

Formal evaluation of candidates will begin on 24 August 2014 and will continue until the position is filled.  For further information, please contact

CTTC is an equal opportunity employer. Applications from physically challenged candidates will be specifically taken into account.
