CTTC´s SMARTECH department is currently coordinating four projects on 5G/6G networks which have been funded by the EC under the umbrella of the Horizon 2020 5G-PPP partnership.

Among those, MonB5G proposes a novel zero-touch management and orchestration framework, heavily leveraging distribution of operations together with state-of-the-art data-driven AI-based mechanisms for 6G networks. Complementarily, MARSAL breaks the barriers of the traditional cellular networks by proposing intelligent End-to-End transfer, processing, and storage services in a cost-effective, flexible and secure way over disruptive cell-free infrastructure. Finally, 5GMediaHub explores how to easily integrate third party applications over 5G deployments, and assess whether 5G media services, such as virtual and augmented reality, work for innovative media content distribution.

“We capitalize, on the scientific reputation on 5G in order to shape breakthrough AI/ML based solutions for 6G networks and on cutting edge infrastructure to build a platform to test 3rd party services over 5G networks. We invest on young talented researchers to build a team that will enable Spain and Europe to become a world leader in 5G and beyond” says Dr.  Christos Verikoukis, Research Director at CTTC.
