Javier A. Vazquez Machuca was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico in 1978. He finished with honours the Electronic and Telecomunications Engineering degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Monterrey, Mexico in 2001. After finishing this degree, he worked in the department of telecommunications of the mentioned university to improve his skills and to experience the world of telecommunications. In 2003, he was accepted at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya for a Ph.D in the Department of Computer Architecture (DAC). He worked in projects of research for the DAC related to high performance computing, parallel computers, and distributed systems. Since November 2008, he is working at CTTC as a member of the Optical Networking Area.
