Ángel Fernández Gambín received hisBachelor and Master degrees in TelecommunicationEngineering from the Technical Universityof Cartagena(UPCT)(Spain) in 2014 and 2016, respectively. His Bachelor’s thesis is entitled “Development of Case Studies onNet2Plan network planning tool” and focused on planning and optimization ofcommunications networks. His Master’s thesis is entitled “Energy Saving in Radio Access Networksusing Dynamic Programming and Certainty EquivalentControl” and focused on energy efficiency in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks. From October 2013 to July 2014, he worked as a research assistant in the Telecommunication Networks Engineering Group within the TIC department at UPCT.
From April 2015 to August 2015, he worked as a research assistant in the Office of Exploration and Data Analysisat UPCT. During his Master, he was granted with the Telefonica Talentum Scholarshipto develop a business idea from January 2016 toJune 2016. From March 2016 toJuly 2016, he joined M.Torres Diseños Industrialesmultinational company as a Junior Software developer within the Aeronautics Department.
From January 2012 to October 2016, he worked as a privateteacher of high school and university students.He received his Ph.D. in Information Engineering within the SIGnal processingand NETworking (SIGNET) research group fromthe University of Padova (Italy) in 2020. He wasinvolved as an Early-Stage Researcher in the EuropeanH2020-MSCA-ITN SCAVENGE projectwith a Marie-Curie PhD fellowshipfrom September 2016 to November 2019. His PhD thesis is entitled “Energy Management Strategies for Sustainable 5G Mobile Networks” and focused on scenarios where the 5G network can be seen as a provider of the electricity grid, with the capabilities of storing, acquiring and selling energy, thanks to the integration of renewable energy sources. From April 2018 to January 2019, he did a PhD stage as a research assistant at Centre Tecnologic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain) within the Communication Networks Division. During his PhD, he has written 5 journal papers and 9 international (peer-reviewed) conference papers. Currently, he is working as a Post-doc researcher within the Geodesy and Navigation Department at Centre Tecnologic Telecomunicacions Catalunya, working on Artificial Intelligence methods for sea water conservation. His current research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, ocean conservation, sustainable aquaculture and renewable energies.
