Pankaj Kumar holds a Master’s degree in Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation from ITC, The Netherlands (2007) and Doctorate degree in Geocomputation from Maynooth University, Ireland (2012). He worked as Postdoctoral Researcher from 2012-2013 year at Maynooth University and then Postdoctoral Researcher/Senior Lecturer from 2014-2016 year at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor. During these years, his research work was focused on multi-platform laser scanning, digital imaging, data integration, objects segmentation, infrastructures mapping and vegetation resources modelling. He has developed several automated algorithms to extract urban roads, buildings and vegetation features from airborne and mobile laser scanning datasets using advanced numerical modelling techniques. Based on this work, he has published several papers in reputed international journals, conference proceedings and workshops.
Apart from this, he was involved in supervision and teaching GIS-related courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Additionally, he has been invited as guest lecturer at various teaching and research organisations. He has been organising and scientific member in various international conference committees and acted as referee for reputed international journals. He has been a team leader and member of various research projects which were obtained from funding organisations at national and international levels (Science Foundation Ireland, European Commission and MOHE Malaysia).
He is currently working as Researcher in the Geodesy and Navigation Department (GEON) of Geomatics Division at Centre Tecnologic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) since September 2016. His research work has been based on LiDAR data analysis, geospatial database management, 3D image reconstruction, machine learning and objects extraction.
