PAIS (Advanced Integrated Service Platform) is a research project involving the development of an access and transport optical infrastructure. Such infrastructure addresses the requirement that the Catalan ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector should be able to use last generation optical equipment. In this sense, one of the goals of the project is to develop a “carrier-class” optical ROADM, fulfilling requirements in terms of connectivity and management required by Telecom carriers and infrastructure operators, as well as the requirements of such an optical network defined by the initiative set by Autonomous Government of Catalonia in the framework of “Xarxa Oberta” project.
The project is led by Tradia Telecom S.A., and the consortium includes, besides CTTC, W-onesys S. L., Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, i2CAT, Tecsidel and Orange Catalunya.
CTTC contribution to the project focuses on improving the intelligence and automation of the network, for a better resource management, by means of an advanced GMPLS based control plane for Wavelength Switched Optical Networks (WSON).
